Chiropractic Care for Sciatica in Boca Raton, FL
Trauma from a car accident can injure the sciatic nerve directly or cause muscle strain over the piriformis muscle that runs directly over the sciatic nerve. A protruding or herniated disc from a car accident can also compress and irritate the sciatic nerve. Here at Shadowood Chiropractic Center, our chiropractor is here to alleviate your discomfort from sciatica as a result of a car accident.
The sciatic nerve is the longest and widest nerve in the human body. It extends from the lower spine down the buttocks to the back of each leg and to the feet. This nerve carries signals for pain and motor control of the back of the thighs, calves and feet. The symptoms of sciatic nerve injury or impingement include numbness, burning and pain, which may radiate from the lower back down to the feet. If a disc ruptures due to a car collision, its inner gel can seep out and push against the sciatic nerve.

“Hello my name is Allan DellaBella, I am a chiropractic physician in Boca Raton, FL and today we are here to answer the question, “What is sciatica”? Behind me I have a chart which shows the skeleton and the major nerves that run through the spine, as you can see the spine runs from the base of the skull right down in through the pelvis. The sciatic nerve comes out from the lower portion of the spine, travels down the leg with branches that run to different aspects of the leg and the muscles all the way down to the toes. The sciatic nerve is made up of the last lumbar vertebra the one above that and half of the one above that runs out to the side and the other half joins the sciatic nerve which runs down the leg.
Now sciatica comes from one of these nerves getting pinched. This is a pinched nerve but in this case where a pinched nerve effects the sciatic nerve it is called sciatica. Now to demonstrate a pinched nerve back to front we have a spine that lines up straight from the side, all these nerves exit from these holes. The vertebra are fully moveable and turn like this so we can turn, should the vertebra turn and get stuck this is what happens to the nerve and it gets pinched. Now the sciatic nerve runs from here to here and here, these nerves run out through the pelvis through the sacral iliac and down the leg.
So virtually what sciatica is, is a pinched nerve that effects the sciatic nerve. Through chiropractic we can retrain the vertebra to go back into the proper position which takes the pressure off of the sciatic nerve, and in essence that is what sciatica is. Thank you”
